Lovely Charles, friend of the iMake podcast, challenged me to get a sourdough starter going while he is away on holiday. As Charles is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best baker out of the 2 of us, I rose (pardon the pun) to the challenge. I am not sure if this is going to work but if it doesn’t, I’ll keep trying until it does! The idea is that Charles and I can make bread together on his return, which will be fun. Incidentally, you can find Charles blogging in his potting shed.
If you’ve not heard of sourdough before, there’s a nice explanation on Wikipedia here: sourdough. I used Paul Hollywood’s instructions which I found in his brilliant book, How to Bake (Amazon affiliate links at the bottom of this post). His recipe involves grated apple.
Green Triangle Girl from A Playful Day told me, via Instagram, that sourdough takes on the characteristics of it’s local bacteria, so my bread would taste different to hers. Isn’t that fab? I love the idea of my bread being unique.
Have you had experience making sourdough? Do you have any tips? If you fancy having a go, I’d love to hear about your progress.
